Skate legend Cindy Whitehead has always been more than just a skateboarder.
She’s a Hall of Famer, an activist, a storyteller, and the founder of Girl Is Not a 4-Letter Word, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting and uplifting women in skateboarding.
On the Carving It Out Podcast: Women’s Skate Stories, Cindy sits down to talk about her life, her impact on the culture, and what continues to drive her passion for skateboarding today.
She talks about the role her parents had in giving her the confidence to step on a board in the first place and how that early encouragement helped her stand strong in a male-dominated scene.
The episode also dives into the changing landscape of sponsorships in skateboarding.
Cindy remembers a time when opportunities were far more limited and compares it to today, where skaters can build careers in ways that were once unthinkable.
But she also points out that with those new opportunities comes the challenge of balancing competition with personal style.
