Tagum City's superlative brand Cheats Movement dons their congruity with Davao's top-notched skateboard company Agenda Skateboards for something deep. The collaboration skateboard deck's design is inspired by two cities' main public transportation vehicles, Davao City's multicab, and Tagum City's pedicab. Illustrated by Cebu-based artist, Siamese Rat.
According to the founder of Cheats Movement, Asther. "The brand name is random, the name "Cheats" doesn't have meaning behind it. It just so happens that when I was looking for a name for the brand, there was a tab open on my computer with the word "Cheats" on it."
He added, "I tried using it on the font I was working at that time for our logo and it suited well. But later on, I decided to add the word "Movement" on the brand name to represent the movement we are doing for our city's local skate scene."
The collab is a commemorative drop to help bolster the local skateboarding scene in Tagum City. The release of every product is not just for the sake of embracing a lucrative source of revenue but the goal is to make sure that skateboarders will personally like to use the decks.
This is the first time that Cheats Movement released a deck and wanted to expand their products and services ever since it was launched 4 years ago but the budget was limited. "When I started to save up, I finally researched how and where to get boards but it's not that easy. It's difficult to find a manufacturer and I have no idea what the process is like." Asther said when we asked him. "it was risky if the plan didn't do well and our budget will go to waste so I tried messaging Dalton asking him if it's possible that we can have a collaboration, luckily he agreed."
"Agenda is one of my inspirations." Asther continued. "I really love what they're doing for the skate scene, and they're already big, so even though we have common friends with the team and we have a common rider (Tristan Pardillo), I was always hesitant and shy to approach them before. So this collaboration is really special for me as it made two of my dreams come to life; to release a deck and have a collaboration with Agenda."
The board is only available online for now via their Facebook Page and Instagram account but they are already in talks with different shops nationwide. The announcement of where the decks will be available is yet to follow. If things will work out then we will be expecting regular release soon.
