Skateboarder and model Brooklinn Khoury has joined the growing criticism surrounding registered Republican and Hollywood actress Sydney Sweeney’s latest advertising campaign.

She uses her own skating to make a direct statement about how women should be represented in sports.

Khoury posted a clip of herself skating with the message:

“Hey Sydney Sweeney, THIS is women in sports.”

She followed it with an even more direct statement:

“Women belong in the sport industry without having to sexualize them.”

For Khoury, the message comes through her skating. Rather than posing for a campaign, she shows herself doing what skateboarders actually do, riding, landing tricks and putting her athletic ability on display.

The post comes after Sweeney became the face of Novig’s new “Just Sports” campaign. The campaign features the Hollywood actress wearing little clothing while footballs, basketballs, hockey equipment and other sports equipment are positioned around her body.

The concept has drawn criticism from female athletes who believe women in sports should be represented through their abilities, training and achievements rather than sexual imagery.

Khoury’s response stands out because she chose skateboarding as her answer.

Her videos frequently show her working on tricks and spending time on her board, giving her audience a look at the physical side of skating.

Her post also comes as several high-profile athletes have spoken out against Sweeney’s campaign.

Four-time Olympic swimming champion Ariarne Titmus criticized the advertising concept, saying she believed this type of marketing should have been left in the past. Former UCLA gymnast Gracie Kramer responded by sharing footage from her own gymnastics career alongside the message, “this is what a woman in sport looks like.”

But Khoury’s contribution has a distinctly skateboarding feel.

Instead of showing a traditional Olympic event, a running track or a swimming pool, she chose a skateboard.
