OG pro skater Brian Wenning is skating again. But this time, it feels different. On May 16, 2025, he was released from Bayside State Prison in Leesburg, New Jersey.
As we previously reported, he had been sentenced to five years under the Graves Act for unlawful weapon possession, with a mandatory minimum of 42 months before being eligible for parole.
After serving his time and completing parole, he's home, free, and focused on turning things around.
In a message to his followers, Wenning opened up about the experience. He kept it honest and personal. “I’m still cleaning up the mess I made every day. One day at a time,” he wrote. That sentence says a lot. He’s not pretending everything is perfect. He’s just showing up and doing the work.
Prison is not just about lost time. It changes you. Wenning made it clear that he didn’t get through it alone. He thanked his brother John for keeping him stocked with commissary bags every two weeks. He also gave love to his mom Kathy, who visited him and kept the phone calls coming. That kind of support makes a difference when you are locked away and trying to keep your head straight.
Now that he is back, skating means more than ever. He mentioned doing a switch backside five-o not long after getting out.
For anyone who knows his style, that trick is classic Wenning. But this time, landing it probably felt more like taking a breath than just another session. “Skateboarding after making it out of prison alive is a wild feeling,” he said. That sentence hits hard. He is not exaggerating or dressing it up. He is just saying it how it is.
There is something real about someone coming forward and admitting they messed up, served their time, and are now working to move forward.
Wenning is not asking for sympathy. He is not trying to clear his name or make excuses. He is just living the reality of what happened and doing his best to get back on track.
He has always had that mix of style and honesty in his skating. Now, he is carrying that same attitude into his life. He is not hiding. He is not bragging. He is just being real.
He ended his post with two simple words. “God Bless.” After everything he has been through, that says a lot. Gratitude. Clarity. And one more day with his board beneath him.
