Core skateboarder and Bluegrass musician Billy Strings is recovering after breaking his leg during a skateboarding incident while on a stop in Virginia.
The moment happened after a recent show when he stepped off stage right before the encore.
In a message shared by Billy, he explained that he was still feeling the excitement from the performance and decided to pick up his skateboard and try a trick he has done many times before, a back 180.
The landing did not go as planned and he ended up breaking his leg.
He described hearing the break happen over the sound of the crowd and compared it to the sound of wood snapping.
What followed was a difficult couple of days involving severe pain, medical procedures, and treatment at UVA Hospital, where he spoke highly of the staff and their care.
Billy was open about initially thinking he might still continue touring, even joking about pushing through like Dave Grohl once did after an injury.
However, after speaking with doctors, his band, friends, and family, he agreed that resting and allowing time for recovery was the right choice.
He also shared that trying to perform so soon after surgery would not allow him to give audiences the kind of shows he wants to deliver.
Along with the physical pain and medication effects, he admitted it would not be fair to fans to go on stage in that condition.
The remaining spring shows scheduled in Charleston, West Virginia and Fishers, Indiana will be moved to later in the year.
Tickets will still be valid for the new dates, with Charleston now planned for early August and the Fishers dates also shifted to August.
Billy closed his message by apologizing to fans, calling the injury a mistake on his part, and promising to return once he has healed.
