As we previously reported, Chris Joslin was recently named Thrasher Magazine’s 2025 Skater of the Year.
With his standout "G-MA" part, including insane NBDs like the big flip down Wallenberg and the massive 360 flip at El Toro, it is easy to see why he earned the title.
On top of that, landing the cover of Thrasher with support from Rockstar Energy and new Lakai boss Luis Mora put him in the spotlight, making his win almost inevitable since all of his stuff was released on Thrasher too.
Not everyone is completely happy with the decision though.
Pro skateboarder Bam Margera spoke up, saying that Australia’s very own Gabriel "Gabbers" Summers deserves a different type of recognition.
According to Bam, Gabbers’ recent part shows a level of commitment that should not go unnoticed.
Gabbers has faced some serious moments while skating.
He pushed through tough tricks, even taking hard hits that left him bleeding, but kept going.
Bam noted that during these moments, Gabbers attempted tricks that most people would shy away from, and even when he fell or got hurt, he never gave up. That attitude is exactly what a warrior-minded skater should look like.
Bam took to social media to voice his thoughts, posting:
"@gabrielsummers1 should get some king of @thrashermag warrior award. Any normal person would go find a hospital, but this guy is just not normal… a certified warrior, varified and approved by Shreddy kruger!"
Gabbers’ raw style and ride-or-die attitude have people in the skate scene hyped, and Bam’s post got everyone wondering if Thrasher should make a new award for the skaters who go all out, take crazy risks, and never quit no matter what.
While Joslin’s SOTY win is well deserved, some fans and fellow pros feel that Gabbers’ effort and commitment should get its own recognition.
