As we previously reported, Plan B Skateboards pro Chris Joslin officially stuck a heavy 360 flip down the El Toro stairs and locked the Thrasher Magazine front cover in the process.
The make instantly entered skate history, but there’s another layer to the story that not everyone knows.
Decathlon Skateboarding pro skater Adrien Bulard had already given the trick a serious go before Joslin rolled away.
Bulard is no stranger to El Toro. Back in 2018, he handled a back tail down the rail that later became a TransWorld SKATEboarding cover.
Fast forward to his more recent trip to California, he set his sights on the stairs with a goal of stomping a 360 flip no one had ever ridden away from.
Footage shows he came painfully close, catching clean rotations and nearly rolling out before security showed up to shut things down.
Determined to finish what he started, Bulard returned for another shot, only to find the spot completely fenced off.
With time running out before heading back to France, the 33-year-old had no way to keep trying. Those near-makes remain as proof of how close he was to sealing a trick that would have easily gone down as one of the heaviest in the book.
In the end, Joslin is the one who finally claimed the make and earned the cover, but Bulard’s attempts give the story extra weight.
Both skaters put themselves on the line at one of skateboarding’s most legendary spots, and the fact that it came down to timing shows just how fine the line can be between almost and history.
