Not all heroes wear capes: An anonymous donor gives back to the skateboarding community in Kansas to improve Santa Fe skateboard park.
Emporia Community Foundation Executive Director Becky Nurnberg reveals to skateboarder Maddox Gutierrez and the community that a donor had given $250,000 for the improvement of their local skate park.
The Southwest Santa Fe skateboard park will have a renovation thanks to an anonymous donation and the efforts of one local skater.
You may remember 13-year-old Gutierrez, who appeared on the local news last year, pushing to change the situation. He started a petition calling for improvements to be made to the outdated park where he and his friends like to skate.
The humble family who donated has requested to remain anonymous. They asked that Gutierrez “be the face of this in working with the city commission,” according to Nurnberg.
“I’m just very grateful,” Gutierrez said. “I feel like after the petition started everything started to slow down, but I’m glad somebody picked that ball back up and kept it rolling. I think it’s amazing, that $250,000 check for the skate park. I’d like to say thank you.”
Skateboarders will soon enjoy a fun skateboarding sesh after city leaders meet with developers to come up with a plan for the park.
