OG pro skater Jim Greco is calling out Instagram after the platform labeled his new Combat Shock skateboarding boots post as AI-generated.
Greco shared the boots on Instagram with a short message announcing that they are now available through Hammers USA.
At the top of the post, however, Instagram displayed a notice claiming AI had been used to create the content.
Greco was quick to dispute that claim, calling it a “total lie.”
He explained that only one image had been edited, with the subject manually clipped out against a blank background in Photoshop.
According to Greco, AI was not used anywhere in the post.
The new footwear is the result of a collaboration with Rian Pozzebon, someone Greco has worked with before.
Greco said the pair previously worked together at Vans in the early 2000s, before he left the company.
The post gives a little insight into the people behind the project while also calling attention to Instagram’s AI labeling system.

It was great to work with @rianpozzebon on this project. Last time we worked together was at Vans before I quit the brand in the early 2000’s.
I could not have brought the boots to life in the way I wanted to without him."
