Skate legend Bucky Lasek has received the ICON Award from the Mid Atlantic Skateboard Hall of Fame.

This adds another honor to a career that has made him one of the most accomplished vert skaters in skateboarding history.
The Hall of Fame recognized Lasek for his achievements and his connection to the Mid Atlantic scene.
His career includes more than a dozen X Games medals, along with some of the most technical vert tricks landed during his time at the top level of competition.
This recognition carried a personal meaning beyond the trophies and medals for Lasek.
He spoke about growing up wanting acceptance from the people around him and how skateboarding eventually gave him a place where he could feel comfortable being himself.
That sense of belonging became an important part of his relationship with skateboarding.
He credits the culture with bringing together people who might not always fit into conventional social circles, giving them a community built around riding, learning and supporting one another.
Lasek also looked back on the lessons that came from spending years on a skateboard.
Falling and getting injured are unavoidable, but learning to get back up after a bad slam can build confidence that carries into everyday life.
That mentality has followed Lasek throughout his career.
Missing a trick does not mean the session is over, and one bad attempt does not erase everything that came before it.
The night was also a chance to reconnect with people from the scene that helped shape his life.
The ICON Award recognizes what he accomplished on a skateboard, while his words about acceptance and perseverance show why skateboarding has remained such an important part of his identity.

"It was such an emotional night to be surrounded by so many of my east coast family. All I ever wanted growing up was to be loved, accepted and appreciated by my family and peers. I’m so humbled to be honored by @midatlanticskateboardinghof and to be recognized in such fashion. Skateboarding has changed my life forever in so many ways, making me the human I am today. Whether you’re an outcast socially or just unable to relate to the norms of society, skateboarding accepts us all. Teaching us valuable life learning skills of confidence that falling or getting hurt are just minor set backs, that rising back up never giving up will bring you confidence to only succeed.
Thank you Skateboarding
