According to reports, Kyle Rittenhouse shot and killed skateboarder Anthony Huber during the unrest in Kenosha, Wisconsin, after a confrontation that unfolded in the middle of the gnarly protests.
After the initial shooting that had already left one person dead, Rittenhouse began running toward a line of police vehicles.
As he moved down the street, several people nearby believed he was an active shooter and chased after him in an attempt to stop him before anyone else could be hurt.
Among those who ran after him was 26 year old Kenosha local skater.
Huber had attended the demonstrations with his girlfriend, Hannah Gittings, who later said the two were trying to document what was happening that night.
According to Gittings, Huber told her to get out of the way before running toward Rittenhouse. She said she tried to grab him, but he continued forward as the situation unfolded within seconds.
Video from the incident shows Huber catching up to Rittenhouse after he fell to the ground. Huber swung his skateboard in an attempt to stop him, but the strike did not prevent Rittenhouse from firing his weapon. Rittenhouse then fired a single shot that struck Huber in the chest.
Huber can be seen walking a few steps away before collapsing in the street. He later died from the gunshot wound.
Huber's obituary remembered him as a creative person with a sharp sense of humor who loved spending time on his skateboard. It also described him as someone who cared deeply about others and stated that he died while standing up for something he believed in.
Reports also noted that Huber was a friend of Jacob Blake, whose police shooting days earlier sparked the demonstrations across Kenosha. Huber and Gittings had gone to the protest to record the events as they unfolded and unfortunately got shot and killed. RIP!
