We recently took a closer look at Sour Solution Skateboards after a release from the brand started circulating, tied to a tribute project involving Michael Jackson.

It is one of those stories that did not really stay in the past, mainly because the boards involved never fully made it into regular circulation and only a small group of people ever got to see how it all unfolded behind the scenes.

The whole situation goes back to 2019 when Sour was working on two skateboard graphics centered on Michael Jackson.

One version featured a younger look, while the other focused on a later era.

At the time, the idea landed well with their audience and preorders came in quickly, turning it into one of their strongest selling projects even before the decks were produced.

With that level of demand, the company moved forward with a full production run and committed serious resources to it.

Everything was set in motion and the boards were manufactured without issue, ready to be shipped out to shops and distributors.

But right around the moment the finished decks were about to arrive, the broader conversation around Michael Jackson shifted again following the release of the documentary Leaving Neverland.

That timing created a situation the team had not anticipated when they originally approved the project.

When the shipment landed, the question became what to do next.

There were already expectations from stores and distributors, but there were also growing concerns about how releasing the boards as planned would be received.

After discussions internally and with partners, the decision was made to hold back the original release.

Instead of distributing them, the boards were sent back and reprinted in a more neutral presentation, which allowed them to be sold in a different form. The original version, however, was taken out of circulation entirely.

Even with that decision, not everything disappeared.

A small number of the untouched decks were kept aside and stored away, never released and rarely spoken about publicly after that point.

Over time, those remaining boards became something collectors would occasionally ask about, but they stayed off the market.

Now, years later, those original decks are finally being made available in a very limited drop.

Only twenty of each graphic exist, which makes them a rare piece of Sour Solution history tied to a very specific moment in time.
