Paul Rodriguez: “The Soul of Skateboarding is Becoming Watered Down”

According to P-Rod, there's no soul in skating these days.

In the recent livestream of YouTube skater Bryan Arnett, professional skateboarders Paul Rodriguez and Mike Mo Capaldi, together with Spanish Mike and the homies, talked about what's happening in the skate industry.

During the conversation, Rodriguez expressed his concerns about the evolving style of skateboarding, suggesting that the soul of skating is becoming diluted.

P-Rod tried his very best to give insights about the new generation skating style because back in the early 2000s, the content being produced was only a few, and pro skaters were also absorbing the tricks nonchalantly without too much content. Still, they ensured they learned the hard way without social media.

He goes on to say that he is just an older man talking, but the soul of skateboarding is becoming watered down. The kids now are just flipping in and flipping out. He explained. "Where is the origin of this, like flip-in, flip-out you're teaching you to become a robot."

He added, "It's like music, skateboarding in my opinion is the best thing compared to music. Like it's a soul to it's feeling, it's not about who can be the best to play the pick on a guitar, Who can play the best riff on a keyboard, who play the fastest drum beat. Like no bro it's about the feeling, it's like an essence to it you know."

P-Rod acknowledged that the tricks being done these days are like in PlayStation, which is difficult. However, it's not about the style. It's more about robotic skating with triple flip-in and quadruple-out. He knows it's hard, but he said it's like a f*ckin asshole. "It looks like ass," he said.
