World Skate has struck a six-year deal with Sakai-machi to bring some big skateboarding events, like the Urban World Cups and the Skateboarding Tour Park, to Japan. There’s even a chance Japan could host the World Skate Games in 2030.
Sakai, which is just under 95 kilometers from Tokyo, is preparing to be a hotspot for urban sports. They're building training centers, camps, and judging schools to help amp up skateboarding, roller freestyle, scooter racing, and skate marathons.
This move fits perfectly with Japan's aim to reach out to younger crowds, especially since skateboarding has become super popular around the world lately, especially after it rocked the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Sakai is becoming a hotspot for urban sports with its Urban Sports Parks. The city’s leaders are looking to amp up tourism and draw in top athletes, positioning it as a cool place for major skate events in the years ahead.
