Anais Hernandez, a 36-year-old woman, has been arrested on a child abuse warrant following a tragic incident that resulted in the death of a teenager while attempting a skateboarding trick on her moving car.
According to KLAS-TV, Hernandez was driving her car with Destiny Jimenez in the passenger seat and four juveniles in the back seat.
One of the 15-year-old teenagers, Anthony De La Torre, asked Hernandez if he could ride his skateboard while clinging onto the outside of the car. Hernandez told De La Torre that it would be unsafe and that she would not drive while skating.
Despite saying no, Jimenez told Hernandez she would drive while De La Torre skates. Unfortunately, Hernandez agreed and switched seats with Jimenez to let the boy skateboard while the car moved.
The teen lost control and fell off the car, sustaining critical injuries. Emergency services were called immediately, but sadly, the teenager succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Jimenez told officers she was the driver and had been driving and smoking marijuana before the crash.
Police records check also revealed that Jimenez did not have a driver’s license.
Jimenez faces a DUI charge after running over her nephew after she allowed him to skateboard while holding onto an SUV she was driving.
