The Watts community finally got to see their long-time dream come to life with the grand opening of the brand-new Watts Skatepark.
This wasn’t just another ribbon-cutting ceremony. It was the result of 15 years of relentless effort, community advocacy, and pure determination.
Designed by CA Skateparks with an emphasis on accessibility and inclusivity, the new 14,000 sq. ft skatepark is more than just a place to skate. It’s a space for the entire community to gather, grow, and ride together.
The park was built using CA Skateparks' All Access Skatepark approach, ensuring that everyone, regardless of ability, can enjoy the space.
Features like WCMX ride-on grind ledges and audible warning tracks make it one of the most adaptive-friendly skateparks in the country.
There’s even a “ring road” loop around the park for beginners to find their flow before diving into the main course.
None of this would have been possible without the dedication of the community and its partners.
Shoutout to the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, the Watts Gang Task Force, the LA Parks Foundation, the Annenberg Foundation, and the Council District for believing in this project and helping bring it to life.
After 15 years, Watts has a skatepark to call its own, and the celebration is just getting started. Grab your board and roll through. This is just the beginning!
