The LGBTQIA+ skateboarding community and its allies have gathered to celebrate Marie DeCourcy's promotion to the professional rankings for There Skateboards company.
DeCourcy has been hitting the streets and making a name for herself since the release of the "A homo company" video from There was released, Sleek Street Vol 1, and the "Trans Girl Sponsor Me Tape" skate video.
Each of these projects not only highlighted her skills but also celebrated the queer experience in skateboarding, helping to pave the way for other LGBTQIA+ skaters.
More and more gay skaters are now becoming part of the skateboarding scene, and with the help of Jim Thiebaud of Deluxe Distribution and owner of There, Jeff Cheung, the growing queer skate family will be here to stay.
Thiebaud and Cheung's efforts have helped foster a community that embraces and uplifts its members, regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation.
DeCourcy's success shows how crucial it is to have diverse representation and to make sure that every skater can be themselves, both on and off the board.
