North Carolina State Senator Timothy Moffitt has recently proposed a bill to make skateboarding illegal on any public road in the state.

The bill has been controversial, as many skateboarders and enthusiasts argue that such a law would not only limit their ability to enjoy skating but also threaten their safety.

According to Senator Moffitt, the proposed ban aims to ensure the safety of skateboarders and drivers on public roads.

He argues that skateboarding on roads creates hazardous conditions, as it poses a risk of collision with motor vehicles and impedes traffic flow.

However, opponents of the bill argue that the ban would be unnecessarily restrictive and infringe on individuals' freedom to engage in recreational activities.

They also argue that skateboarding on roads can be done safely and that many skateboarders use public roads as a means of transportation.

They contend that the real issue is not skateboarding on roads but rather the need for better infrastructure and designated spaces for skateboarders.

The proposed bill has sparked a heated debate in the state, with both sides presenting valid points. Supporters of the ban claim that it would reduce accidents and improve public safety, while opponents argue that it would be an unnecessary restriction on personal freedom.

As per the bill, the act becomes effective on October 1, 2023. Polk County may adopt an ordinance under this section when this act becomes law, but the regulation may only become effective after October 1, 2023.
