Thrasher magazine is credited with helping vitalize skateboarding since its inception in 1981. The publishing company consists primarily of skateboarding and music-related articles, interviews, skatepark reviews, photography, etc. The magazine is also best known for Burnout, Double Rock, Firing Line, Hall of Meat, Skateline, and more. Hence, the most popular segment and most respected award in global skateboarding history they have is the "Skater of The Year."

The annual award tradition started in 1990, and the accolade is still Preeminent above all. The "Skater of the year" title is granted to one of the gnarliest skateboarders yearly with a voting system but ultimately being picked by the editor-in-chief of Thrasher Jake Phelps when he was still alive. This time since Phelper passed last year, it's possible that it will be picked by Michael Burnett together with the top executives of the publication, and especially the owner Tony Vitello. Chris Cole and Danny Way are the only ones who received the award twice, and there's a possibility that Milton Martinez will follow the two skateboarding legends this 2020 after he did the hill bomb the gnarliest hill in San Diego.

Who are you going to be picking? According to Thrasher, the finalist will be announced this Friday together with the public voting.
