A 22-year-old skateboarder was killed in a hit-and-run crash early Thursday morning in Los Angeles, leaving family, friends, and the local skateboarding community devastated.
The incident happened around 2:30 a.m. in Koreatown, where the driver fled the scene without stopping.
Authorities say the victim, whose name has not been released, was skating along a stretch of road when he was struck by a speeding vehicle.
Witnesses reported hearing a loud impact, followed by the sound of a car accelerating away. Paramedics arrived quickly, but the young man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators are reviewing security camera footage from nearby businesses in hopes of identifying the vehicle involved.
So far, no description of the car or driver has been confirmed. Police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
Locals in the area say the intersection has long been a concern due to reckless driving, and skaters often use the streets at night when traffic is lighter.
As of now, the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are asking anyone who may have seen the incident or has dashcam footage from the area to contact the LAPD’s traffic division.
The victim’s family has not yet made a public statement but is reportedly asking for privacy as they process their loss.
Hit-and-run cases in Los Angeles remain a serious issue, with many drivers avoiding responsibility after collisions.
