World Skate, the governing body for roller speed skating, has introduced a groundbreaking skateboard coaching strategy.
Developed by the SB Coaching Commission, which consists of skateboarding experts and led by SB Coaching Development Manager James Karageorgiou, this strategy represents a consequential step forward in recognizing skateboarding as a sport with dedicated coaching and athlete development.
The SB Coaching Commission has been hard at work crafting a comprehensive framework for skateboard coaching that aligns with World Skate's institutional framework and global reach.
Karageorgiou recently presented the strategy document at World Skate's last two WST events, shedding light on the evolution of coaching in the skateboarding world.
World Skate aims to establish an accreditation framework for skateboard coaches, ensuring they adhere to specific codes of conduct.
An Ethics Commission will monitor and maintain coaching standards, providing a robust and ethical foundation for the sport.
Collaborating closely with national federations, World Skate will facilitate workshops, identify educational gaps, and develop coach-mentoring programs. This approach seeks to raise the overall quality of coaching and ensures that skateboard athletes receive the best guidance.
The roller speed skating organization plans to establish international coaching conferences, honor coaching excellence, and create a dedicated well-being program for coaches.
The timeline for implementing these initiatives extends to the Los Angeles Olympic Games in 2028, marking a meaningful landmark in skateboarding's journey toward becoming a fully recognized and professional sport.
