Death Skateboards professional skateboarder Richie Jackson faced backlash after posting the Gadsden flag, a symbol of historical and political affiliation.
Jackson recently issued a public apology, acknowledging the matter's sensitivity and expressing regret for his choice of imagery.
The Skate Wizard said, "Sincerely apologize for displaying the Gadsden flag in my post earlier this week. It has been deleted."
The never-again post from Jackson still showed the flag waving as a video, and skateboarders think he is trolling.
Some say it's offensive, and he did a great job of having accountability.
According to John M. Hartvigsen, president of the North American Vexillological Association, the version of that flag that we’re familiar with today was originally used by Confederate war veterans’ groups and the like, and was then embraced by the Ku Klux Klan and other white supremacists. This association with racial hatred, and the flag’s historic roots as an emblem of a would-be government that embraced slavery, has long made the flag offensive to many.
It's important to note that interpretations of symbols can vary widely, and not everyone views the Gadsden flag as offensive.
