Skateboarder Matt Kutsor has officially launched a petition to help dedicate the Lydia Gold Skatepark in Huntsville, Alabama, to the late legend James Hardy.
Hardy has been a local hero skating the park for years while making friends worldwide as a pro skateboarder. He never forgot his roots in Huntsville.
He understood the meaning of community and used skateboarding as a tool to unite many people in his city.
Unfortunately, his death on March 31st, 2024, left a void in the skating community, where he touched many lives.
Initially, Kutsor's proposal was to rename the park as James Hardy Skatepark. However, in recognition of Lydia Gold's legendary status, the petition has been updated to James Hardy Memorial Park and other options, to fit tribute to both icons.
Kutsor acknowledged the family and anyone who is aware of Gold's contributions to the arts, music scene, and skateboarding advocacy in Huntsville.
They aim to expand the options for honoring Hardy in a manner that is appropriate, respectful, and fitting for their city.
These are the there options:
1) Combine the names of both James Hardy and Lydia Gold into a singular title (ex. James Hardy Memorial at Lydia Gold, James Hardy Memorial Park presented by Lydia Gold, etc.).
2) A mural commemorating James (and Vader) commissioned by a local artist.
3) A statue commemorating James (and Vader) commissioned by a local artist.
