Professional skateboarder Paul Rodriguez has been up to something a little different lately.
While most of us know him as the switch king and one of the smoothest pros to ever step on a board, it turns out he’s been spending less time at the ledge and more time in the ring training in kickboxing.
It’s a side of P-Rod that people might not expect, but honestly, it makes a lot of sense. He’s always been calculated, technical, and calm under pressure.
Those traits transfer over pretty well when you’re staring someone down in a ring trying to land a clean low kick or dodge a jab.
Of course, he’s not leaving skateboarding behind. Primitive Skateboards is still rolling strong, and Paul’s still heavily involved.
He’s also been making moves with the Santo Studio division under the Jaxxon brand, blending skate culture with fashion and now, apparently, combat training.
His schedule must be wild. Design meetings one day, sparring sessions the next.
Skating and kickboxing both demand a ridiculous amount of repetition, patience, and pain tolerance.
If you’ve ever watched P-Rod go back for a trick ten, twenty, thirty times in a row, then it’s easy to imagine him drilling the same combo until it’s clean.
He hasn’t said whether he’s planning on fighting competitively or if this is just for personal growth, but either way, it’s rad to watch.
Maybe it’s just another way for him to stay sharp, stay humble, and keep learning.
