Skateboarding is a lifestyle that you can never turn your back on. Once you did you will always come back for more, you even dream about skating in your sleep and every time you see stairs, handrails or just even a curb your brain starts to be creative and you are thinking about tricks that can be done using your skateboard. Also, seeing skaters in the streets makes you want to grab your board, sometimes by just watching skate videos hypes you up and all of a sudden next thing you know you are already shredding the streets.
Here are the signs that you are very obsessed with your setup:
You imagine that you can do all the tricks
For over a period of time you thought that you can be sponsored someday. When you were just starting you dream big, daydreaming in your classroom and skipping school to skate. Please don’t and stay in school. Educate yourself for plan b in case being a pro isn’t meant to be.
You treat it like it’s Your Significant other
You are constantly checking your board’s graphics to ensure that the vivid design is not scratched like it’s your own girlfriend/wife because taking care of your deck means you care a lot and not just that, you also care for your budget if you are not a sponsored skater – especially back in the early 2000’s the decks were very expensive with few skate shops and were not even feasible.
You Always Clean your setup
Let’s be honest, not everyone will be pros, ams or just a regular flow in a skate shop so you better take good care of your setup. As a skate rat that is just starting to skate you sometimes wipe the grip tape if it’s dirty and of course you clean your bearings, trucks, and wheels. If you never in your life did anything to make your skateboard clean then you just lied to yourself big time.
You bring it with you wherever you go
You are constantly thinking that you are a pro skater and professional skaters bring it with them on tours that you watch in skate videos – imagining that you are a part of a huge skate team and always on the grind. Hitting up homies and asking where to shred the streets, bombarding normal people that don’t skate and getting kicked out.
You drink with the homies with it
If you are an early 2000 skater you probably thought about being a part of the Piss Drunks Crew or if you are an old school skater maybe you wanted to be Hosoi who was the bad boy in the early ’80s. New skaters certainly thought about the “Get Buck” Era. No matter what it is, you most definitely chill and hang out with your friends after the sesh.
You watch skate videos with it
Before going out and hit the streets, of course, it’s mandatory to watch your favorite skaters do some gnarly tricks to get you motivated duh!
