After the Elephant Skateboards brand went out of business, skateboarding legend Mike Vallely moved on to launch his new board company Street Plant Skateboards in 2015 from the garage in Long Beach, California.
Vallely and his family moved to Des Moines, Iowa, to continue their family business, which is 100% independent skateboarding owned and operated.
The original Elephant graphics was from Powell Peralta when Mike V first rode for the team until he became a professional skateboarder.
The symbol of the Elephant x Powell Peralta combination shook the skateboarding world by storm, and to this day, it is one of the most OG and memorable graphics of all time.
Mike V took to his official Instagram account to announce that he is parting ways with George Powell and Stacey Peralta once and for all with gratitude after a thirty-eight-year on-and-off relationship with the company.
Street Plant Skateboards is still operating, allowing the THPS icon to own and run two businesses with his family's help.
Mike V posted, "After a well-documented on and off again thirty-eight-year relationship with Powell Peralta, I have decided that the Camouflage Edition of my Classic Elephant Board, will be the last of the Big Tuskers. The previous three partings with Powell Peralta were at unfortunate lows in the relationship, and this time we are at a high, in the sense that we are positively engaged with mutual respect, and it just feels like the right time to part ways once and for all with gratitude, thanks, and appreciation for all that the relationship has brought into my life. George and Stacy have been important mentors to me, and the honor of turning pro and having my first ever pro-model board with Powell Peralta is a true highlight of my entire career in skateboarding. After these Camo-Elephants sell out, no more Vallely x Powell Peralta products will be produced. Going forward, I will not be looking back, but instead working on new art, projects, and brands; specifically, the launch of @vallelyskateboards. Now is the time to get one of the last Big Tuskers, available now at mikevallely.com, and to start following @vallelyskateboards on social media to keep up with upcoming limited-edition releases. Thanks for Your Support!"
