Skateboarding is getting a fresh twist, and it’s all thanks to former Girl Skateboards professional skateboarder Mike Mo Capaldi and his new project, the Professional Skateboarding League.
Mike Mo posted: "I never thought that starting a “league” was something that I would do, or even want to do. But over the years have been slowly developing new ideas for how we can make it different than any other contest and something that is simplified enough that anyone can watch and understand. A truly objective format seemed like a fun enough idea to explore. So here we are, launching the first ever exhibition match on Jan 25th in LA. With 8 of the best skaters in the world, competing as teams.
If you’re interested in coming to the first one, go to our website and sign up and check the “I swear on @seanmalto’s life that I will come to this event” button and I’ll send a private link for free tickets to attend. Only click that Malto button if you’re serious about coming, trying to have as accurate of a head count as possible.
The event is Jan 25th and will be filmed and broadcast to our YouTube channel about a week after.
Our goal is to make this format as good as possible, so all feedback is welcome. Very interested to see what everyone thinks after they watch the first one.
Please share this with anyone that might be interested in what we’re doing and let’s see if this thing flops or succeeds. It will be entertaining to me regardless of the outcome 😂.
More updates coming soon. See you Jan 25th 👊🏼👊🏼"
This league is shaking things up as a cool alternative to the Street League Skateboarding, bringing a fun new vibe to the skating. With a unique setup focused on team dynamics, PSL is changing how we enjoy skateboarding competitions.
The league features four teams going head-to-head in a 2v2 format, cranking up the energy and creating an exciting atmosphere that’s super easy to follow.
Instead of the usual judging, they’ve flipped the scoring to take cues from the classic game of SKATE, but with a fun twist—points, rounds, and teamwork strategies are all in the mix.
And here’s the catch: it’s all about stairs. This new approach promises to keep fans on their toes while giving skaters a chance to show off their creativity and teamwork.
The first event kicked off on January 25th at the Primitive Skatepark. Tickets sold out fast, but you can still catch all the action.
The full event drops on the PSL YouTube channel on February 1st at 6pm PT. Whether you’re a core skateboarder or just looking for something fresh to watch, this is definitely one you don’t want to miss.
What really sets PSL apart is its focus on collaboration and innovation. By throwing out the traditional judging system and going with a team-based format, Mike Mo is bringing a cool new outlook to the skateboarding scene. It’s no longer just about individual tricks; it’s about how skaters work together, strategize, and lift each other to new levels.
So, mark February 1st on your calendar and head over to the PSL YouTube channel for the premiere. Whether you’re in it for the skateboarding, the new format, or just to see what Mike Mo has been up to, this is an event that’s worth your time. Skateboarding is evolving, and PSL is the one leading the way.
