Caltech, the world-renowned science and engineering institute that marshals some of the world's brightest minds and the most innovative tools, has built a bipedal robot that can skate.
The new "LEONARDO" robot (short for LEgs ONboARD drOne, or LEO for short) has a combined walking with flying to create a new type of locomotion, making it exceptionally nimble.
Unlike other skateboarding robots, Caltech's LEO bot is unique and is capable of complex movements.
Part walking, flying, and part skateboarding drone, the newly developed skate bot can walk a slackline, hop, and even ride a skateboard.
Developed by a team at Caltech's Center for Autonomous Systems and Technologies (CAST), LEO is the first robot that uses multi-joint legs and propeller-based thrusters to achieve a degree of control over its balance.
It is no surprise that AI bots are taking over in the next ten years, replacing humans to do the majority of workloads.
