Lakai is putting a bigger focus on keeping skateboarding affordable, announcing that all new shoes from the brand will now carry a $69 manufacturer suggested retail price.

The announcement came through Lakai’s social media, where the brand shared its approach to pricing.

The brand also explained that lowering the price is about more than simply making shoes cheaper.

Lakai says the goal is to get more pairs into the streets while also generating more royalties for the core heads who represent the company.

For all the riders of Lakai, that means the skate shoes can now reach more skaters at a price that is easier to manage.

Signature shoes can often sit at a higher price because of the name attached to them, so keeping pro shoes at $69 gives Bastien Salabanzi and Chris Joslin’s pro models a more accessible price point.

Lakai also noted that its approach is tied to its relationship with skateboarding and the people who ride for the brand.

“We don’t just sell footwear. We support skateboarding,” Lakai said.

The $69 MSRP will apply to all new Lakai shoes, according to the brand. That gives the company a consistent price point for upcoming releases and puts affordability at the front of its current approach to footwear.

For core skaters who have watched skate shoe prices climb over the years, a $69 MSRP is certainly worth paying attention to.
