Pro skater Kevin Baekkel and Emerica are going their separate ways after a long run together.
Sixteen years is no small stretch, and Baekkel has been a key part of the brand for over a decade and a half. He’s put out some heavy parts over the years, always repping Emerica along the way.
Taking to Instagram, Baekkel shared his gratitude for the friendships, projects, and memories that came with riding for the company. “Been one hell of a ride the last 16 years. Grateful for the friendships, memories, and incredible projects we shared. Looking forwards to what the future holds,” he wrote.
It’s clear there’s a lot of love and respect between him and the crew he’s been rolling with for so long.
Emerica has built its reputation on a deep connection with the core skate community. Baekkel fit right in with his hard-hitting approach, taking on the gnarliest spots with an all-or-nothing attitude.
So what’s next for Baekkel? No word yet on a new shoe sponsor, but with his talent and reputation, it won’t be long before another brand scoops him up.
For now, he’s still out there ripping with Creature Skateboards, Independent Trucks, Bronson Speed Co., Monster Energy, Beyond Medals, Blue Arms Tattoo, Mob Grip and there’s no doubt he’ll keep dropping heavy clips.
Sixteen years with one brand is rare these days, and it speaks to the connection he had with Emerica. But things change, and sometimes it’s time for a fresh start.
