Birdhouse skateboards head honcho and legendary professional skateboarder Tony Hawk said that the man, the myth, the legend John Lennon was probably a goofy-footed skater in his time.
The Birdman posted on his official Instagram account. "John Lennon riding a skateboard in Nassau, 1965." I have so many questions about how this happened but here are my observations."
Hawk put all the info on what he thinks on the photo:
1. John is goofy-footed. YES.
2. Frame 1: He pushes with his back foot. Proper technique way before skaters knew any better.
3. Riding a Hobie Super Surfer, one of the first production (complete) skateboards for sale. Doubtful many were sold in the Bahamas though.
4. Frame 4: Risked wheelbite (on clay wheels!) to turn towards the camera
5. Frame 5: stable enough give a “friendly” British greeting.
6. Frame 6: Rode past the camera and got pitted, so pitted.
He added. "Immediately sat down after this and wrote the melody for Norwegian Wood, which was originally titled “Canadian Maple” - a tribute to his new hobby. Ok I made that up, but it still could have happened. Thanks to Tom Green for reminding me of this, and to Sean Ono Lennon for verifying the date."
