One of the greatest of all time professional skateboarders Tony Hawk was featured in The Berrics' segment " "How I Got Sponsored."
Hawk explains how he first got sponsored by the legendary crew in the '80s together with Mike Smith, Christian Hosoi, and Mark "Gator" Rogowski. The Dogtown clique had a lot of special capabilities. The skills that they had back then were already a big deal.
The 52-year-old said that his dad invited the team manager of the team at that time Denise Downs Barter as well as Mike Smith to their house because they were in San Diego to practice more. "They saw me skating. I wouldn't say that they were impressed." Hawk said. "But they thought I had potential and so Mike gave me his old board."
Hawk continued saying that he learned a couple of tricks before they left town. The Dogtown team said that since he got Mike's board then they will start sending him boards.
"That was pretty much it. I was sponsored by Dogtown and I think I was one of the three-team members at the time. My first sponsored skateboard was Mike Smith's hand-me-down. Hawk said. "And so by default, I was sponsored by Independent because it has indies on it."
