Hideo Kojima, the mastermind behind some of the most unforgettable moments in video game history, is stepping into a completely different world but somehow, it still feels like it fits.

This time, he’s teaming up with filmmaker Harmony Korine and his experimental brand EDGLRD, a project that’s been quietly stirring the pot with its offbeat blend of skateboarding, visual art, and AI-driven gaming.

Kojima’s name carries serious weight in gaming circles.

From Metal Gear Solid to Death Stranding, he’s known for twisting narratives, oddball characters, and building entire experiences that play out more like cinema than conventional games.

Korine, on the other hand, is known for movies that live in the grit of real life, like Kids and Gummo. The latter being the visual reference slapped right onto a limited EDGLRD skateboard deck that Kojima recently posed with, along with a strange, oversized baby toy that seems plucked from one of his weirder dream sequences.

This isn't some random crossover. EDGLRD has been quietly working on integrating AI technology into gaming and skate culture, and Kojima’s involvement suggests things might be heading in an even more experimental direction.

Korine has long talked about wanting to create something that doesn’t follow typical formats. A hybrid of skate video, game, and digital art.

Something people experience more than they play or watch in a traditional sense.

Seeing Kojima holding that EDGLRD deck doesn’t just signal a bit of mutual appreciation. It might be hinting at a shared interest in crafting experiences that bend expectations.

Both Kojima and Korine have always had a taste for the strange, the chaotic, and the deeply personal, and if their creative worlds are about to collide, it could mean we’re in for something that feels more like a living dream than a typical game or skate edit.

Of course, neither of them has spilled many details yet. But the fact that these two are even in the same room, let alone working together, is enough to make anyone curious about what’s next. Whatever it is, don’t expect it to follow any rules.
