DIY skate spots are always collaborative, requiring sweat, blood, and tears for the love of skateboarding. Not to mention, the finances of many skate rats poured even though some don't have much.
Grindland: "the Red, Monk, and the Birth of DIY" story is Mark Scott and Mark Hubbard's hard work with dedicated friends helped and improved the legendary skate spots, from the early days of Burnside to 2019’s Rip Ride Rally.
The film delved into comradeship with a "come help, and you're in" mentality. It also featured the struggle, triumph, and tragedy of true iconoclasts, hellbent on building concrete heavy labor skateparks of their dreams.
With their handmade do-it-yourself skatepark approach, the skater-builders reap friendship often missing from contemporary society. Even non-skaters were involved in the Burnside camaraderie.
