The accusations center around the alleged prioritization of financial interests over raw talent.
The YouTube Skater claims that Thrasher's SOTY selections have been tainted by favoritism, with the magazine purportedly giving precedence to skaters' sponsors based on their financial contributions and connections rather than their skill on the board.
He also compared Thrasher to polyamorous couple. "Everybody in the SOTY list, we're all like in this big stupid bar in like Portland Oregon or something or possibly even more hipster hell hole than that," he said.
He added. "Everybody else in the bar is like peacocking because you know one of the people the dude in this polyamorous relationship owns a company and everyone in the bar wants an internship at that company, so you have to make yourself look as f*ckable as possible to this couple and you hope that they come up to you out of everybody at the whole bar and they go, we really like your vibe."
"That's it." He explained. "You can get angry, you can get upset. It's fun to get f*cking pissed about this stuff but ultimately it's a little bit pointless because it's not going to you're like tyring to grasp that smoke and try to understand of what this group of like six blading maybe half of them graduated from high school skateboarding expert."
His controversial take has ignited discussions within the skateboarding community, with many expressing concern over the potential compromise of the integrity of the SOTY award.
Thrasher has long been considered a tastemaker and trendsetter in the skateboarding world, and any allegations of bias or favoritism could have far-reaching implications for the magazine's credibility.
