People in Chinatown are still talking about what went down Friday night after a 76-year-old woman was found dead in her apartment.
Neighbors say there was a skateboard covered in blood near her, and now the city’s cops are trying to figure out exactly what happened.
The woman, Zhu Hou, lived in one of the buildings at Knickerbocker Village.
Locals say her apartment was always a little loud, with arguments spilling out sometimes, but no one thought it would end like this. “You could hear them yelling all the time, but I never thought it would get serious,” said one neighbor who didn’t want to give his name.
Cops said her son found her and called 911.
They’re questioning him because he has a history of mental health problems, but nobody has been arrested yet. People in the building are keeping their eyes open and hoping things get figured out fast.
Cameras in the complex might give police some clues.
Neighbors are shaken. Some say it hits different when something like this happens right where you live. “It’s crazy that this went down right here in our building. You just never think it can happen so close,” another resident said.
The city’s medical examiner is going to check her body to find out what really happened. Police are asking anyone who saw or heard anything to reach out to the 5th Precinct. Right now, the whole neighborhood is trying to make sense of it and stay safe while investigators work.
