Brooklyn Projects skate shop owner Dom DeLuca was recognized by the city of Los Angeles and the state of California for his lasting impact on the neighborhood and the skateboarding community.
The city of LA officially recognized his impact, with the mayor presenting him a Certificate of Recognition. For DeLuca, it was more than just a piece of paper.
It was finally getting credit for years of passion and hard work. He admitted that after countless collabs and projects, this was the first time he really felt like he’d been given his flowers.
Brooklyn Projects has always been more than just a skate shop. DeLuca built it as a place to inspire and support the next generation, giving skaters a community where they could feel at home.
Over the years, it’s become a hub where young people could find their style, their identity, and a sense of belonging.
Looking back on the award, DeLuca said much of what he’s done hasn’t always come with thanks, but that never stopped him. For him, the shop has never been about chasing business alone. It’s about living for something bigger than himself.
This recognition not only honors everything he and Brooklyn Projects have built but also shines a light on the future he’s still helping shape for skateboarding and culture in LA.

"I’m still in shock from this. Today @mayorofla handed down to myself and my business @brooklynprojects a very special award that is given to people and businesses that directly impact the community and the city of Los Angeles.

As you all know .. I’ve been a fixture on Melrose Ave for almost 30 years … I helped curate the skateboard culture in hollywood.. long before Fairfax ever happened.. we were the nucleus .
-
Never got my flowers … until today. This means more to me than any collab I have ever done.
-
A Certificate Of Recognition .. from the city of LA and the state of California that recognize all the work I’ve put into the community.. not only the neighborhood and Melrose corridor but the skateboard community .
-
The main reason we have @brooklynprojects is to inspire the new generation and continue growing and teaching and supporting skateboarding in Los Angeles.
-
It’s a thankless job but I wouldn’t give it up for anything .. I live for this.
-
Thank you
@mayorofla
@cd5losangelesThere’s more to come as I’m just getting started …"
