Skateboarding legend Dave Hegstrom, better known in the skate world as davO from SkaterBuilt, has been fighting through some heavy health news this week.
davO recently experienced a major heart failure that landed him in the hospital. He’s now recovering with a pacemaker.
Fellow skate legend Duane Peters shared the update, calling on everyone to keep davO in their thoughts:
“PRAYING FOR DAVE SKATERBUILT - Heart complications / Pace Maker action now - He seems to be in stable condition - ( dave text ) Hey .. just wanted to let you know that I’m still alive as I had massive heart failure on Wednesday and was hospitalized.. turns out I inherited my mom‘s faulty heart and I had to get a pacemaker.. but at least I’m still here! ALL RIGHT LETS THROW THIS HARD WORKING SKATE DOG SOME HEAVY PRAYERS AND HELP GET HIM BACK ON HIS FEET !!!! #godbless”
If you’ve ever crossed paths with davO or followed his work with SkaterBuilt, you know how much heart he’s put into keeping core skateboarding alive and well.
From custom builds to backyard sessions, he’s been grinding nonstop for decades.
Now it’s time for us to give something back. He’s stable for now, but recovery is no easy ride. Let's all throw some serious prayers, love, and support his way.
Hang in there, davO. You’ve always been one of the real ones.
