After Daniel Mancina received a signature board from REAL skateboards, he didn't stop working hard and grinded more than 22 feet using his skateboard on his way to breaking a Guinness World Record.
He lost sight, but that didn't stop the Michigan native from rolling and giving his all, setting an impressive record-breaking trick.
Unfortunately, at just thirteen years old, Mancina was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa during a routine optometry exam.
Retinitis pigmentosa is a rare genetic eye disease that affects the light-sensitive layer of tissue in the back of the eye and often leads to legal and complete blindness.
According to Guinness World Records, the 35-year-old broke the record for the longest 50-50 grind on a skateboard.
Guinness announced Friday that the Royal Oak native accomplished the feat in January, sliding on a rail for a total distance of 22 feet and 5 inches.
Mancina urges those interested in skateboarding to "just get out there and skate," regardless of any obstacles they might face. "Never let others define you and what you are capable of," he said.
Congratulations to Mancina for a job well done and for not giving up.
As a result, he is one of the best skateboarders in the history of skateboarding for never allowing his condition to stop him from what he loves.
"Stoked to be a part of the 2023 Guinness World Records book!" Dan Mancina posted. "I had tried to grind this rail a handful of times without success. It was the longest 50-50 I have done! So many other amazing people in this book as well. Including other adaptive writers like Aaron "Wheelz" Fotheringham and Felipe Nunes."
