Professional skateboarder Brandon Turner has been through a lot.
From being a young skate rat to going to jail, his life has had some rough turns. But now he is back skating in the streets, and his crew at Sk8Mafia never turned their backs on him.
These days, Turner is also helping people off the board. He started West Side Recovery, a program for people dealing with addiction. It is something that comes from his own struggles and the lessons he picked up along the way.
He was recently on The Rich Somers Report Podcast where he got asked why skateboarders often do well in business. His answer was real simple. Skaters are not afraid to fail because we are not afraid to fall.
If you skate, you already know. You fall a lot. That is just part of it. You do not land tricks right away. You mess up, slam hard, and try again.
Turner says that is exactly why skaters make good business people. They are used to taking hits and coming back stronger.
He said starting a business is the same thing. You are going to mess up. You are going to lose money. Things are not always going to work. But if you treat it like skating, you will just keep trying until it clicks.
Turner also said skaters do not quit. If you want to land something, you do not stop after one or two tries. You keep at it. That attitude shows up in other parts of life too. Especially when you are trying to build something real.
Now he is skating, running a recovery center, and staying focused on giving back. Turner’s story is solid proof that falling down does not mean it is over.
It just means you are learning. And if you are willing to get back up, you are already on your way.
