Canadian professional skateboarder Andy Anderson has smith grinded the insane-looking 29 stair handrail and explains how was the process and what was going through his mind when trying the trick.
The 25-year-old pro skater spoke to Nka Vids Skateboarding about his struggles, fears, and whatnot. He even describes the situation about the crack before nailing the skateboarding trick.
He also posted a great explanation his official Instagram account.
"This was the First Trick filmed for my Powell Peralta video!! I was looking at it for three years before I attempted it." Anderson posted. "Two years in, Alex Midler Bs 50-50’d the thing! I was wanting to Fs 50-50 it, and he just showed me that it was possible. Me and Nka vids went there a couple times, and I “tight rope walked” down the rail to size it up."
"He added. "I was scared. All of a sudden, I heard word that Malik Simpson (IG??) Fs 50-50’d it! I then had to choose a different trick if I was gunna skate this thing, and I’d have to do it soon. The day came where I decided it had to happen."
"I went to Cherry Park to warm up on their flat bar. Going as fast as I could to get used to grinding fast, and grinding as slow as I could go to get used to balancing long. Deville Nunes, Scott Decenzo, Sean Michael Hayes and myself drove over to the Long Beach Convention Centre to get this thing, but the ground was wet, and as soon as we arrived, the security rolled up in a golf cart and told us to beat it."
"We half packed up our stuff and they took off (all before the first attempt). He said. "Scott ran off to keep a look out, and Sean Michael Hayes stood up on the upper level filming the second angle. Another thing... on the other side of that wall I crash into... it’s a 2 or 3 story drop to a street."
"Hence why I flattened out instead of tryna hug the wall. The slams were unprecedented because of the puddles, but I was too ready to not take this opportunity. Sean Michael Hayes coached me into bringing two set ups, and landed it on the 2nd cause the 1st got Soaked! Couldn’t skate for a good month and a half after getting this clip.
He continued. "And then a lil while later, I got a call from DeVille, tellin me that THIS IS THE RAIL Frankie Hill BOARDSLIDES AT THE END OF HIS BAN THIS PART. Talk about full circle. Frankie Hill was pro for Powell Peralta in the 80’s and was one of the first guys to attempt handrails of this magnitude. Go look up “Frankie Hill, Ban This” on YouTube."
From White Rock, BC Canada, Anderson who always wears his helmet didn't back down trying to grind the 29 stair rail.
Anderson got off to a hot start and was kind of fired up nailing his smith grind. He landed the trick even when the ground was slippery wet.
