Skateboarding brands and Pride merchandise used to be a familiar sight every June.

A few years ago, it was common to walk into skate shops or scroll through brand pages and see rainbow colored decks, shirts, and limited drops tied to LGBTQ Pride. Nike, Adidas, New Balance, Vans, and even FA World Entertainment all had moments where Pride collections were part of their seasonal releases.

Some were small capsule drops, others were more visible across stores and social feeds.

Back then, Pride Month had become part of the marketing calendar for many companies connected to skateboarding culture.

Shops would set up displays, online stores would feature Pride collections on the front page, and riders sponsored by these brands would sometimes wear those pieces in photos or edits.

It felt like a yearly rhythm that people had gotten used to seeing.

This year feels different.

A lot of those same brands are not showing the same level of public Pride merchandise or campaigns.

One of the few names still showing support in a visible way is Converse. The brand has continued to release Pride focused items and messaging, trying to maintain a connection with LGBTQIA+ communities while other companies stay more quiet.

A lot of industry watchers connect this change to the current political climate in the United States after Donald Trump returned to the presidency.

Since then, many companies have become more cautious about public messaging tied to social topics.

There has been pressure from political groups and public backlash in past years, and some brands appear to be adjusting their approach to avoid controversy and protect sales.

Skateboarding has always had a complicated relationship with corporate branding. On one hand, big companies brought more money, visibility, and global reach to the scene.

On the other hand, the culture started as something raw, independent, and often outside of mainstream marketing.

When Pride collections first became common in skate related brands, some people saw it as progress and inclusion. Others saw it as corporate timing tied to sales cycles.

Whether this is a temporary pause or a longer shift is still unclear. Right now, the skateboarding industry looks more restrained in how it approaches Pride Month, with fewer products and quieter messaging compared to previous years.
