Pro skater Antwuan Dixon’s story is one most people know only in pieces, but when you really look at it, it’s wild how quickly he rose and how much he’s overcome.
The new STORIED documentary, The Antwuan Dixon Story: Skateboarding's Wildest Ride, walks through all of it with host Torey Pudwill guiding the way.
Antwuan started out skating in Carson, California, riding for Transitions Skateshop after handing over a sponsor me tape that could have passed as a pro part.
Soon, he was hitting up the Pharmacy Skateshop hubbas in Victorville, California, and before long he was making a name for himself around Los Angeles.
It wasn’t long until he joined Baker and Deathwish Skateboards, a move that put him in the spotlight. With natural talent and a style that was all his own, Antwuan didn’t just skate, he commanded attention.
Andrew Reynolds and Erik Ellington recognized that right away, and Antwuan’s first full part in Baker 3 cemented his place in skateboarding history.
Watching that opening 360 flip to the beat, followed by a Nollie Heelflip down the Carlsbad Gap and a Heelflip down Wilshire 15, it was clear something special was happening.
After rising to fame so quickly, Antwuan faced personal struggles that started to take over. Heavy drinking and drug use began to interfere with his life, and after multiple run-ins with the law, he served several jail terms.
Skateboarding was put on hold, and his relationship with the Baker Boys fell apart, ending with the discontinuation of his pro board.
It was a tough period, and while past documentaries like Epicly Later’d touched on these moments, this new film focuses on how Antwuan rebuilt himself.
Even while he was in jail, his old skate crews stayed in touch. FTP Skateboards and Straye Shoes continued to support him, giving him pro models and keeping the doors open. Antwuan often says, "major setbacks for major comebacks," and he has lived by that.
Today, he’s over five years sober, in great shape, and skating better than ever. His relationship with the Baker Boys has not only been repaired but grown stronger than before.
