Dom DeLuca from Brooklyn Projects skate shop had a day to remember. It felt like time slowed down, reminding him of the important stuff in life.
He got to give back to veterans at the VA, who have sacrificed so much. It wasn’t just about handing out things like shoes, food from @tacos1986la, or clothes.
It was about showing up for those who’ve given so much and making sure they know they’re not forgotten.
A lot of these vets have been through tough times, both physically and mentally, and the whole experience really hit home for Dom.
DeLuca posted, "Today was very surreal and a real life changing experience .

Im still trying to process all my feelings .. I can’t quite express myself as I would like to.
-
I had the opportunity to give back to those that gave EVERYTHING at the VA today.
-
This campus of sorts houses veterans who have lost everything and lost a piece of themselves in every way possible. Vets with PSD live here and get treatment here as well…
-
I was shocked at what they didn’t get here .. but that’s for another time and place .
-
I spent time giving shoes as well as food from @tacos1986la and clothing donations.
-
I couldn’t believe what these vets weren’t getting given all they have given.
-
The last part of my day .. as I was walking to my car .. off in the distance was John ..served in the Navy under Pres Reagan .
-
We talked for about 30 minutes .. about random things . I asked why didn’t he come to get some shoes earlier .. he said “look at me ? .. no use for shoes “
-
I jokingly said to him .. “one to rock and one to stock”.. and explained the meaning . He laughed .. then I proceeded to walk alongside of him ..
-
I then helped him take off his old beaters .. and put on a fresh pair of @nbnumeric sneakers.
-
The look on his face when I put them on .. I’ll never forget … I fought back tears as I went to my car to then let them out.
-
John jokingly said he’ll use the other shoe for his new prosthetic when it comes in.. made me smile.
-
We exchanged info .. I will revisit this place next month and do it all again.
-
Praise and thanks goes to my brother @mrcheckpoint_ for bringing me to this place .."
