Skateboarding legend Tony Hawk recently surprised Reese Nelson by presenting her with a custom pro model Birdhouse skateboard, honoring her gnarly skateboarding skills on vert.
The Birdman shared his excitement about this on social media, expressing how inspiring it was to see Reese's skating progress and her ability to pull off impressive tricks previously only done by skate legends.
During a recent filming session, Nelson casually mentioned that she had landed a switch tail-grab 540 - Hawk was super impressed and asked her to film herself doing the trick.
Nelson's only request for repeating the trick was some chocolate, which Tony was more than happy to provide. The filming day concluded with Hawk revealing the big news: Reese was officially turning pro with her very own Birdhouse deck. Congratulations, Reese!
The Birdman posted:
"It’s been inspiring to see @reese__nelson’s skating evolve into doing tricks that most of us [veteran/vert] skaters could only imagine. I was shooting footage of her recently and she casually told me she did a switch tail-grab 540 - a trick only done twice in the past by legends Jake Brown and Bob Burnquist - while skating alone. I asked if she could do it again for video and her only request was chocolate in return. So yesterday we set up an elaborate filming day but with an ulterior motive at the end: to turn her pro. Congrats Reese! 🍫🛹🎉
