If you think all the tickets will be gone by now, with the Paris Olympics approaching, you're wrong! It turns out there are still about 600,000 tickets available as fans react to the expensive prices.
According to reports, there is a surge in listings on resale sites, climbing from 180,000 a month ago to 270,465 as of July 22. Ticket prices are a big issue, with the priciest ones going for €2,970.
Tony Estanguet, president of Paris 2024 and a former Olympic canoeing champion, dismissed concerns that the unsold tickets suggest a lack of interest.
He mentioned that empty seats at major events aren't uncommon, referring to London 2012, where 264,000 tickets went unsold.
Estanguet also pointed out that Paris is doing better than Rio did in 2016 when the city struggled until the last minute to sell 1.3 million tickets. He attributed the current situation to the ticket release strategy, explaining that Paris has released tickets in stages rather than all at once.
This approach means some tickets are still available as the final game plans come together.
Paris has sold 8.8 million tickets so far, showing that, while some are still left, the event is not a failure.
