As we previously reported, VF Corporation has hired a new Vans global President Sun Choe to help aid their plummeting sales.
Which resulted for the sporting goods and athletic shoe expert Matt Powell believing that hiring chief product officer of Lululemon is a big win for Vans footwear.
He thinks she did some amazing work at Lulu and can bring a fresh vibe to Vans. Some people are worried she's not a shoe pro, but Powell reckons she knows her stuff and can pick up the technical side.
As for Vans being all about skateboarding culture, Powell think Choe can totally handle that, even though she's not a skateboarder herself.
Powell knows she's a quick learner and has a young, energetic vibe that can keep Vans connected to its roots.
“To me, the bigger issue is can you come into a company and understand the culture, understand what drives that culture, and then nurture that culture,” Powell said. “I think people who have that ability can do anything. So yes, she is not a skater, but that is not really required.
"Look at NikeSB." He added, "The culture told us they would never be successful in skateboarding because they didn’t come from skateboarding. Now they are one of the most successful skateboard footwear brands there is.”
