A North Texas skateboarder named David DuVall finds himself stranded in Barcelona, Spain, after being charged with assault. The young man's family insists he did not commit the crime and is working to clear his name.
According to reports, DuVall went to Barcelona for a skate trip with his friend Vince Guzaldo but was allegedly involved in an altercation with another person while in Barcelona.
However, on March 14, 2023, a man was attacked by someone with a skateboard similar to DuVall's in Barcelona. DuVall was arrested with his friend, charged with a crime, and spent almost five days in prison.
The 23-year-old says he didn't do it, and his attorney in Spain says the victim even told police that DuVall was the wrong guy. There's also GPS proof on DuVall's phone saying he wasn't even near the crime, but the police said it's not good enough.
The two were subsequently charged with assault and have been unable to leave the country while the legal process continues.
DuVall's family is fighting the charge, insisting he did not engage in violent behavior. They have hired legal representation in Spain and are working to prove his innocence.
Meanwhile, DuVall and Guzaldo are stuck in Barcelona, unable to return home to North Texas. The family has set up a fundraiser to help cover the costs of legal fees and other expenses associated with his prolonged stay in Spain.
The fundraiser states: "This fundraiser is for my 23 year old son David DuVall and his best friend Vince Guzaldo. He was on vacation in Barcelona, Spain when he and Vince were wrongly accused of aggravated assault. He and Vince have absolutely no connection to the event or any individuals involved in the event whatsoever. He and Vince are awaiting trial and need a lawyer to help them avoid a prison sentence. The money raised will be used to pay for legal fees, a private investigator and travel expenses. They are currently detained in Spain without their passport awaiting a trial date. Any amount you can spare would be helpful and greatly appreciated. Thank you all and let’s bring David and Vince home!!!"
