The 2009 American film “Street Dreams” made a huge impact on skateboarders that were persistent on being sponsored skaters and one day being pro.
Usually, normal people can never understand the passion of core skateboarders on their skate dreams and they think that it doesn’t have any future at all in their eyes.
Back in the early 2000s or even before that year, our friends and even our families think that it is just a wood that flips.
But nowadays it's slowly being accepted and if you ask the pioneers or even the pros on twitter, there’s more to dreaming than sitting by the window and waiting for good things to happen to you.
That’s not how it works in real life. But you also must work hard for what you want. For your skate dreams to come true, you must be practical.
Be Sure to Know What You Want
Skateboarding is not all about being pro someday, it is also about working in the skate industry. You can be a professional skate photographer, an illustrator in a magazine, skateboarding filmmaker, graphic designer, skate shop owner, sales representative, marketing specialist in a skateboard company and the list goes on and on. Focus only on your growth and mind only your own pace. It takes time to be sure of what you want so don’t hurry.
Know Your Advantages and Accept Your Limitations
You need to be aware of your resources and find a way to maximize what you have. You must know that you can never quit your primary job while you build up your skate dreams or side hustle. Let’s be honest with ourselves that in this economy especially in a pandemic, a backup plan is always necessary. However, paying bills, maintaining a household, or helping your parents can never be a practical move so be patient and spend wisely. You can leave your day job once everything is now stable.
Surround Yourself with Successful and Positive People
It is going to be much easier to turn your skate dreams into reality when you are not surrounded by negative people because a negative person likes to complain, convincing that you can never be what you want and they will suck all your energy and drag you down in a negativity spiral. Stick with those people who aren’t afraid to call you out but who wouldn’t hesitate to build you up.
Patience, Patience, and Patience
The road to any successful person is not always that smooth. But the right mindset will surely get you there. Your skateboarding dreams will never come true overnight so you have to be patient all the time -you will always encounter many distractions in life to be successful. Life is going to be boring without any challenges so always be prepared for all the hurdles that you will face.
Learn From Your Mistakes and Move On
A part of being practical is also being able to embrace your mistakes. A blunder can also be an extremely surprising blessing because you can use your misstep as a jumping-off point toward something new. The greatest life lesson we can all learn is what made something go wrong, correct it, move forward, and avoid the same error.
Be Confident but Never Arrogant
Many skateboarding entrepreneurs said that it’s not about being the best but you have to be humble for you to also fit in a team. There will always be someone who is more experienced than you or more naturally talented than you and arrogance will get you nowhere in life. If you are more knowledgeable than other people, then don't make them feel like crap. Rather, help them and be a good team player.
No One is Going to Follow Your Dreams but Yourself
For your skateboarding dreams to thrive, you have to always believe that it will happen. And for it to materialize, you need to put in a lot of time and effort so dream, hope, and keep doing you. And once you have reached your aspirations, savor your victory then start working on your next goal because it shouldn’t stop you from there so stay working.
